I've never had any issues with this and often do open or switch tabs. They are unrelated tabs.
That said, your post makes sense. Remove any points of failure.
If you have some extensions on your browser, this click away will trigger an extension to run and update your cookies that track your purchase. You likely don't have any of said extensions enabled.
