That gives them the excuse you "clicked away" and purchased other than from their referral, and then neither Cartera gets paid by their sale commission nor do you get your miles.
I've never had any issues with this and often do open or switch tabs. They are unrelated tabs.
That said, your post makes sense. Remove any points of failure.
