I cannot speak to Tasmania as I have never been. But we have been to the south coast of the continent from Adelaide to Melbourne, including the great ocean road, a smattering of the outback, as well as to Sydney and the Blue Mountains and up to Port Douglas. And, while perfectly nice, the scenery in and of itself was not nearly as spectacular as other coastal locales or mountainous regions like the Pacific Coast Highway in CA, Chapman’s Peak drive in South Africa , the South Island of New Zealand or even parts of Europe (for instance, the Dalmatian coast or the Dolomites of Italy). If you are looking for rugged mountain/coastal scenery then, IMO, Australia is not the place to go. Perhaps Tasmania might be the exception. If , however, you seek tropical seaside beauty, are a fan of stark arid landscapes or enjoy urban areas nestled in pretty natural settings, IMO, Australia does have some truly unique offerings. I have also heard Kangaroo Island is definitely worth the visit but the trailing aftermath of the wildfires kept us away during our visit.
