I reached out to customer support yesterday whom also confirmed the penalty is $500 for adult, $375 for the child, which aligns with what the app is saying. They did not offer to waive the penalty at all unfortunately.
But keep watching. If there were a significant schedule change they might offer you a refund with no penalty. This said, if your flight is in March, that is getting unlikely.
