Family traveling on the same flight last month had to check in their carry ons which were appropriately sized but weighed over 7kgs. All economy pax had their luggage weighed at check-in. However I'm usually in biz and have never had the same issue. So the answer is it'll probably depend on the weight of the case and, if in economy you'll probably have to check it in.
