You just have to make sure the prepayment is charged by Amex travel (which is how it used to be) vs a deposit by hotel (seems like a new thing).
sorry. maybe my comment was not clear enough. im saying, in order to ensure u get amex travel to charge ur card ASAP without stupid junk happening, its best to select PAY NOW - NON-REFUNDABLE PAYMENT DUE NOW rates.
if other types of prepayment rates worked for u (depending on property) then keep doing that. but i want to guarantee my amex travel charge.
below is an example of a junk booking that didnt work. u can see this was prepaid - pay NOW - DUE TODAY. except they never charged my card after the initial pre-auth. charges dropped off and i got a nice surprise onsite wen told nothing prepaid. ZERO deposit. ZERO amex FHR $200 credit.
