Answer to Companion Inheriting AAdvantage Status for upgrades?
Hey there AA Gurus,
I hate to post this here because I'm sure it's been discussed, but can't seem to find in any Wikis regarding the confusion over whether companions with lower status on your PNR are elevated to your upgrade level for complimentary upgrades and also miles/copay requests for international flights?
I've heard some say if you are traveling with a companion on the same PNR and they have status that's lower than yours, if you're at -24 and haven't been upgraded yet you should remove their AAdvantage number in the record to ensure that they are attached to your "upgrade level" on the list because of a "glitch in the AA upgrade system." Yet, the other day I recently flew back from BOS-LAX. My wife is Gold and I am EP, and both our AAdvantage numbers were in the (same) PNR, Neither of us cleared at -24, but I noticed the 1st class cabin (A321) was practically empty so figured our chances were good. Between the time we left the AC and the time we got to the gate, we had both been upgraded. I was #1 on upgrade list at gate, my wife was #2. My son who is PLT was on a separate PNR, and #4 on upgrade list but didn't get the upgrade.
Any insights on how to get closer to the truth on this matter? Or better yet Mods, a WIKI??
Thanks!!!
