I am sure there are some vanilla Amex Plat cardholders who will convert to an SC membership, but given the high volume of sustained complaining on the changes (and with the SC membership option having been an obvious/suitable alternative solution all the while), I also don't think a sizable number will go this route. In particular, I think the subset of vanilla Amex Plat cardholders who proudly and painstakingly make the annual fee cost neutral (via coupon book discounts, etc.) are not very well aligned with the set of customers who will simply drop $695 on an annual lounge membership expense. The latter group has always been in the lounges, the former group not so much.
