I want to thank you for your sage advice, aka banging on: it prompted me to make a little extra effort to hit GfL in Summer 2024 and not wait for it come organically in 2025.
Ironically, I also hit 5K tier points to qualify for GGL for the first time and then re-qualified into 2026 for what will inevitably be the last time. Being Japan-based, I currently see no way for me to push enough of my travel through BA to meet the GGL minimum spend so I’ll be leveraging my remaining jokers and GUF on redemptions ex-Tokyo.
JAL plus Oneworld covers most of my travel needs so I’ll probably stick with the alliance for the time being. Now, with GfL in the bag, I feel that I can wait a while before having to decide which FF program and alliance might work best for me.
