Like I said, I don't care whether they call it stopover or transit or pumpkin spice latte, I just want my schedule and am not here to move it around to cater to their arbitrary married segment bingo. It is completely stupid that you can choose the HKG-SIN that is 1 hour after AKL-HKG (and the next 1 or 2) as a transit and then the one that is 25 hours after AKL-HKG as a stopover (with a sizeable price jump) but not the ones in between. They need to build their IT around what makes it easiest for their customers to get what they want and not expect their customers to navigate around their crap website figuring out how to tick all the rules to get what they want. It is particularly annoying that you can spend the time to price it and get to the payment page and only then does it 404. It annoyed me enough to just book BR instead.
just reviving this somewhat as I’m planning work travel later in 2025 and was looking at using CX given they have a published I-fare for 4560 NZD. However I have discovered a few things which I suspect is related to the BS duopoly/joint venture between NZ/CX (which really should not have been approved as it is so anticompetitive - AKL-HKG in business is 2.5k more than TPE/ICN etc which is ludicrous).
The few things I’ve figured
1) CX website is useless - you can use multi-city to assist you to plug in stops both ways but can’t do AKL-SIN as first sector (that’s blocked by the IT)
2) CX schedules for regional routes aren’t loaded really for second half of the year
3) July/August has aggressive inventory management already, no I-class loaded HKG-AKL during this period
4) There is rather aggressive married segment management going on with SIN
5) if intent on booking CX can do via Expedia or travel agent
Because of the shenanigans, the only real other OW cheaper business option oddly is BA via Sydney…..
