Well, status does have the advantage that you get into certain lounges that business class alone wouldn't, and there's the first wing at T5 should you frequent that.
Flagship lounges, QF F lounges etc. are better than the standsrd offerings.

At the end of the day, if your naturally flying enough to gain status, fine
If you need to add a couple of extra CW flights at say £5k, and you're only going to be doing half a dozen trips a year, is the outlay worth it? Could work out at up to £1k for a lounge visit if you don't do anything else with the status.

I'm more bothered about whether they make any changes to status. Silver might be achievable for many, but it they start restricting access, cutting this and that might not be worth the effort.
Could be up from 7500 to 10k TP the year after if too achievable

At the end of the day, it's all about what you can afford, what you define as value and where you fly and in what cabin
