Based on the language in the post, I suspect that the misunderstanding was caused by an English comprehension issue on the poster's side.
The seats only recline about two or three inches so it means you are almost completely upright for an overnight red eye. It seems to me that they crammed extra rows of seats in. Not all seats are uniformly lined up. The configuration is 2 1 2. There was a tall and large man in row 3 near the window that could not get out of his seat to use the rest room because the seat in front of him was reclined just a couple of inches. If you take a plumb and hang it from the back of a reclined seat it will drop very close to the seat cushion of the seat behind it,maybe even hit it depending on which row you are in..
Your post is incorrect. The 767 business class seat pitch is 40 inches and the seats recline 10 inches.
