Just out of curiosity, is there even an upgrade instrument that books into AA R or J class? Those (and D) are the standard booking for what AA calls its "non discounted" business class fares. BTW, our family is going to miss J, D and R buckets (on both AA and BA) as AS stops differentiating between discounted and non discounted business class fares this year.
