But I do have the difficulty in getting top value out of the $200 credit, though the 35% points back on MR fares is nice.
I hope our terrific mod will tolerate one more off-topic post on this. Keep in mind that you can gift the two ~$100 travel funds from cancelled Southwest tickets to anyone. Just make sure you select a Wanna Get Away
Plus fare. It's usually not hard to find one for <=$103 for a short route, like SFO-LAX. Buy the two tickets, immediately cancel, select the option to use funds for future travel. Anyone can use those funds if you give them the info from the cancellation.
Okay, now back to our regularly-scheduled programming.
ETA: I did the same rinse and repeat today. Maybe this trick will work indefinitely, but I wouldn't be surprised if it stops working at some point. Amex might even do clawbacks of the credits, and we wouldn't be in a good position to complain if they do. A gift card doesn't seem like a purchase at a Hilton
property. ("Eligible purchases, including bookings and incidental charges, must be charged directly with a property within the Hilton portfolio to the enrolled Card Account for the benefit to apply.")
