In pursuit of that final year of GGL, I had a 1600 tp trip on QR planned for April/May that would have seen me in and out of Abu Dhabi 4 times in a couple of weeks. This wasn't going to be a trip done for no other reason than points: I was looking forward to going to Dacca, which I've not been to since my backpacker days in the late 70's, and I was also looking forward to getting up to Jaffna, at the top end of Sri Lanka, which I've never been to. But I'll still get to both these places in the next year or so, just in a less circuitous and slightly more planet-aware fashion.
I've now rejigged my travel plans for the first part of this year, and will be going to Uzbekistan - a country I've long wanted to visit, but hadn't, because there was no sensibly priced, high tp earning, One World way of getting there.
I'll be flying on TK from Amsterdam which will cost me around £1300 with all 4 sectors on A330s with lie-flat seats, which seems pretty good value to me. I'm not sure how far that will get me towards *A gold, but as TK often offer very good value flights to a number of places I would like to revisit, or want to discover; and as Istanbul is one of my favourite cities in the world, I suspect I might not find it too difficult to reach gold in this new alliance.
I've greatly enjoyed, and benefitted from, my GGL status over the past 10 years, and I fully intend to extract maximum value from it between now and the end of April next year. So I'll still be flying BA, but from now on almost exclusively on redemption flights, particularly while I've still got space releases, companion vouchers and GUFs to use alongside my stash of avios. Perhaps there should be a last-gaspers' corner in CCR?
Slightly off topic, but Uzbekistan has long been on our travel list, so would love to hear more about your plans and experiences!
