One "unexpected" result of the most recent changes is likely the death of the short-haul continental network of BA, and we will be left with LCCs for direct flights. Since CE short haul flights will mean jack s for the new system, especially as half the fare is essentially taxes (non-eligible spend), I can't see any CE seat being filled starting next year. Maybe they will be converted to Y seats, but this is likely to hit the bottom line, and then it's a vicious circle where they can't compete with LCCs etc. So it's likely that actually, BA will become what Virgin is today (extensive Western network, a few African/Indian routes here and there, no or barely any short-haul, and Asia market given to QR [KLM]), except without the same level of service.
I thought the point of BA's short haul network was to get people
in to LHR, and onto their LH flights, not
out of LHR
