I agree it's peculiar they've kept this - it made some sense coming out of Covid, but less so now.
It's a small nod to helping people keep their status, but it's so small as to be almost irrelevant in that regard. It's only +300 from the level below (+500 for Plat->1K), which is basically one R/T or less
