My second stay at this property in November 2023 was this time in a Premium room with queen and sofa beds and Club lounge access, a five category upgrade from my booked Standard room with king bed. Whilst this sounds like an impressive upgrade, in reality the hotel distinguishes rooms by bed type (twin, queen and king) and view (standard or park), even before you reach the suite categories.

At 28 square metres, my sixth (top) floor room was actually smaller than the 31 square metre room I experienced last time, although with only one proper bed this time around the room felt larger. The L-shaped desk layout made a lot more sense than adjacent to the minibar, although it would’ve been nice to face the window, even if the view of an adjacent office block and road network was far from inspiring.

Differences I noted in the Premium room included a DVD player for those wanting to experience the noughties all over again, a proper Nespresso machine and bath robes. I knew from prior experience that slippers would be found in the drawer below the TV. As had been the case in my Standard room, tea was by English Garden and hot chocolate was also provided.

The bathroom was spacious, as it had been in my Standard room, and included a bath and separate walk-in shower. Amenities by Apotheke were provided only in large bottles, and there were no face cloths.

As with my previous stay, I appreciated how clean and well-maintained my room was, even if the interior design is dated.

I used the Club lounge (known as the Sky lounge) to work from on one day, which is well appointed on the sixth floor with plenty of natural light and views over the local residential neighbourhood through the floor-to-ceiling windows. The lounge majors on dining table seating for two people, with one lounge seating area at the far end. A single desktop computer and printer is provided. A washroom within the lounge features White Company hand wash. I didn’t use any of the lounge food or drink offerings beyond water (preferring the refurbished Craft restaurant for breakfast), so can’t comment on how well provisioned the space is, although the buffet was not a large area.

I find this property to be oddly charming in a mildly retro way. This is my go-to hotel if needing to stay near Brussels Airport.
