Why a GFL/LTG would want to look further afield because of the changes?

I liked the perks of GGL, jokers, GUFs and an excellent contact centre. They don't all exist in the Gold world. But the new thresholds cancel out the current GGL benefits and are not worth me splurging £40k a year on an inconsistent and tired FIRST and a frequently appalling club seat and service anymore. I will miss the benefits of GGL, but for my £40k I can have lots of Emirates FRST in clean planes, consistent service and even a shower before landing. The network to Asia by BA seems to be declining in favour of our cousins, so I have to change planes somewhere so why not in UAE or Qatar.
