Stayed at Carolina Inn over the holidays in both a King Suite and a 2 queen. Paid cash because rates over the holidays were relatively low. Both rooms were a little tight, but cozy. The decor has received a much needed update earlier this year and it's less traditional and "old timey" than previously. Globalist breakfast allowance covered entrees and drinks for two adults at Crossroads.
Beds were comfortable, bathrooms in both rooms unexpectedly had ventilation fans, an abundance of pillows were provided, and proximity to the UNC campus is excellent. The Magnolia Pantry had limited snack selections. Ceilings are very low here so if you're taller than 6'1" then you might consider wearing a bike helmet for protection! Self parking with in-and-out privileges was $23/day.
It was a nice stay but I prefer the Rizzo Center (more spacious rooms, huge fitness center, free breakfast, free laundry, free parking, better snack pantries, heated pool) unless you need to be close to UNC campus.
