we saw first thing in the morning it was delayed by 40 mins, but then at the airport another hour, then once on the aircraft 2 technicians were on board to fix a problem, we missed our slot and then had to wait which resulted in a 3.5 hour delay. Many thanks.
That's the sort of detail which is about the best you can get - observed, as it happened. So this would be TECY, other than BA may well claim that the delay was under 3 hours after deducting the ATC aspects. Whereas you will point out that had the aircraft been fully ready then that would not have happened. So it looks good for a delay compensation claim.
