From what I understand from here and elsewhere is that the next 9 787s to be delivered will all be 787-9s in the current configuration. After that it is anyone's guess, including Polaris 2.0 and/or a more premium 789 configuration. In all likelihood, if that is the case for at least one of those, probably won't see more than a few this year and it will be much more of a 2026 introduction.

What UA really needs is the IGW 78Js with a more premium configuration as the combination of the two can replace the 772s on almost every longhaul they still use the aircraft ex-SFO, like a SFO-TPE/HKG frequency each and SFO-AKL. Not enough range for SFO-SYD though, as this NS will see the 772 on SFO-SYD, but there are 22 77Ws around although their ULH range means they could be used for SFO-SGN/BKK should UA launch those respective routes in the future.

UA will have an updated delivery schedule for their aircraft with the Q4/Full Year earnings call in a few weeks.
