I remember the hotel saying to get a taxi to Plaka and take the boat from there .... much quicker, maybe 20 minutes from the hotel and some 10 minutes to Spinalonga on a small but comfortable boat. Also cheap. A decent recent gen E class hotel arranged taxi was only 30 euro. The boat itself maybe the same price, can't quite remember but so low that it was irrelevant. The island itself was very rocky and steep inclines. Not such a problem but for those of a certain age and/or mobility, definitely to be factored in. Interesting as it was it would not warrant more than an afternoon.

Also there were one or two decent dining options there. The one right by the boat departure point was nice. I forget the name but is on the immediate RHS as you get off the boat. We ate there and the quality was solid ... wines a tad pricey and average but that's par for the course. Nice town.

What was really good and a personal hobby horse of mine just now, was the Olive Oil farm and tasting. Again I forget the name but ask the concierge at the hotel. Tell them it's the one with the production plant on the LHS of the road and the tasting of OO (and wines if you chose) on the RHS of the road. Took maybe an hour but an interesting hour and the shop there was that rare thing .... somewhere that sold something interesting and decent. I was sceptical but proved wrong. Again the same hotel arranged transport was from memory 35 euro. Good value. Hotel cars to and from airport were the same spec and equally good value.

If you have the option take one of the suites with a private pool or have Diamond or RA and can get an upgrade, then this is very worthwhile. From memory this was on floor 8 and had a great sea view.
