Is there a possibility to gift the flight credits to someone else (would be last resort, but better than letting it go to waste)?

even if NH/Asiana did show up, very well could be that low fare classes require ticketing through those airlines directly on those intra-Asian segments, and if United did offer them, it might very well be a full Y fare - which might not be worth using any credits on anyway.
if you can’t use your credits on travel that UA does fly, you can essentially extend them by using your credits to buy a new, domestic US itinerary for about the amount you have, then wait 24 hours and cancel that. Those FFCs will be valid for another year.
Seems strange as we have booked with ANA before with United miles in the past to Korea I believe, but pre-covid.

That sounds good as that might be better for a later flight. Are you sure you can get a year extension that easily?
