I've just remembered once when I flew to ORD with BA and then onto St Louis with AA (and I'm sure it wasn't a code share) that the steward said I didn't have to pay for my drinks on the flight because the booking was classed as LHR-St. Louis and that meant I was entitled to free drinks.
