This isn’t typical of my annual spend with BA though. and I don’t normally get Silver

If BA want to allow buying status without having to set foot on a plane then that’s up to them. Given I spent a few years flying to achieve Bronze each year, to me it seems like a bit of a slap in my face. Just my personal opinion though YMMV.
