Hi everyone - really appreciating everyone's comments on this thread and the announcement thread of the changes.
I have hit the threshold to retain Gold until April 2026, should that be honoured by BA, and then would drop to Silver (if the soft landing remains as suggested) until April 2027, as it seems unlikely that I'll hit the spend requirement to retain Gold even with some big trips like Australia on the books.
So, I'm giving some thought as to where to allocate my travel spend over the next couple of years...
- I currently have Elite status with ITA, as I jumped on their status match a while back; I so far don't have any flights booked with SkyTeam.
- I will likely be spending five months in Halifax, Canada for work this year - with probable once-monthly US/Canada travel.
- I'm flying Business to the Philippines with Qatar this month, and there's a Cathay flight thrown in for good measure for a weekend in Hong Kong (Economy).
Any thoughts on whether I try and retain OneWorld higher-tier status either through Qatar or a North American outfit, like American or Alaskan? Or do I opt to try and retain my matched ST status (expiring in December 2025)?
This could impact which alliance I book to Australia with too. I'll also be keeping an eye out for *A status match offers too.
Any thoughts/suggestions would be welcome! Thanks!
