overall it seems the property simply got a paint job and new carpets. the rooms were good sized and comfortable. the furnishings (at least in my room) were clearly the former property furnishings. everything worked well and it was all just OK, but basic. copmlicating matters is the property is surrounded by other buildings and student housing i think so even my top floor room had direct views across the alley to other housing/they got a free show as it was an annoying property where it was either curtains closed or open--no sheers. overall very quiet too.
there was no dedicated lounge in july--and had to go to the bar for nibbles/wine/beer at the allocated time which we did not do as it was a small bar space and quite busy with a poor layout. the price however was right for the time and i would stay here again only if the price were right relative to the other portfolio properties but frankly to be a marriott in the true sense they would require a fully rennovation.
Rooms are going for 450 GBP or so per night in July 2025 and high seems steep but so are the other hotels! I managed to get a BRG for 250 so might stick with it. Even IBIS is that price in Edinburg! I hope your price was more reasonable in July this year!
