The platinum perks that is worth considering is access to Al Safwa lounge when on a QR J fare ticket and the Qcredits.
There is a post in the Oneworld forum with some help to decide which loyalty program is better suited for you.
Much of my long haul from Manchester now is with Qatar so if nothing else this will be a stopgap, as I have to decide by Saturday (no point depositing with BA) and will review once the dust has settled with the BA changes.

EDIT: Assume a Platinum with QR will also allow me access to the First Wing at LHR or is that just for BA Gold?
