And as MichaelA380 pointed out, is it not really such a big deal if it would be 2025 or 2026. And to be honest, eaning it right aways wuld be in line with most (all) frequent guest programms. As soon as you hit a higher status, you have all the benefit. It is somehow unique to IHG to let you choose. I agreee that it was nice (and maybe even intentionally) to have it like this for the first years after the introduction of the new programm.
