good article. I think everyone who uses a Mac shares this sentiment: why do people put up with malware and crummy OS options when there's an alternative that eliminates all suceptibility to viruses and spyware? The idea of re-installing the OS is so foreign to me... I can't imagine ever having to do that on any sort of semi-regular basis -- or having to purchase software to neutralize malware.

Similarly, it's nice not to have to compromise size and weight to have a 15" screen, and if my computer that I paid $1000+ for didn't wake up instantly upon opening, I think I'd throw it through the CEO's window.

Anyway, I wanted to mention that Apple came out with new Powerbooks last week. They're now faster, come with backlit keyboards standard (keys illuminate, screen dims automatically when it's dark), better video cards, high capacity HD (up to 100G), and, probably the most relevant to this discussion, technology that stops the hard drive platter from spinning when the computer takes a tumble, making them more robust. They're also a couple of hundred dollars cheaper now.
