One crew member said it was because the nuts go "soggy", although I don't really have any recollection of ever having soggy nuts (erhhhh).
I rarely eat them so can't really comment on potential sogginess. But it is heartening to know that they didn't do it to save money, -- that would have been ridiculous, as
nomadabroad pointed out upthread.
