Summer time is peak season for QR and most airlines. Also QRs USA routes are notoriously hard to find award seats....they usually get snapped up when QR extends their schedules. For the price quotes would just book a revenue ticket and play around with the outbound airport (Mumbai, Delhi, etc.). Also if you can get to Kathmandu or Colombo the price of tickets to the USA tend to be lower and you may also luck out with award seats.
