I agree with this - if it becomes clear you are going to end up where you didnt plan or want to be, make your own plans if you can - assume BA will be slow and miserly (if they bother to get anything organised at all)
Absolutely. Assess the situation and if not looking good, take things into your own hands. These things are often time critical.
