Then, after signing up/being approved, during my travels when I was at SFO and IAD (two UA hubs), I saw posters, also in United's terminal, offering more bonus (60-70k) miles. It was all United, 100%. It doesn't make sense. I feel somewhat ripped off now. I have Stage 4 cancer and want to travel more so wanted to invest in a credit card that would give me miles. I was given a prognosis of 3-5 years left to live. Not trying to get sympathy here, just explaining why I am so upset.
I initially thought 25k seemed a bit low, but figured that everyone got the same 25k bonus and it was the same across the board, and the free checked bag/2 club access vouchers, as well as priority boarding, would be sufficient. Yes, I understand life isn't fair, but there's a huge difference between 25k and 60k miles. If it was 25k vs. 35k, okay, not a big deal maybe, but the gap between 25k and 60k miles is a lot, especially if it's the same $3k being spent in the end. I feel like a slap in my face for working like a sucker to get to $3k (mostly spent on United flights, including in Business—you can see my meal pics) for 25k miles, when the person next to me could be getting 60k miles. I understand caveat emperor, but this is all new to me and I thought the mileage bonus was the same across the board, especially as it's one airline/company (United). I was able to spend the $3k pretty quickly, but now I feel like such a sucker. How do you think it might feel seeing you work like a chump for $3k/25k miles when the posters in the airport offer 60k miles for the same $3k?
Why is the UA app offering 25k during the purchasing process, when there are higher mileage bonuses, including posters in the airports at UA's own terminals?
None of this makes sense. I'm sorry for my rant/questions but trying to grasp this. I've been a longtime UA/CO customer (since 2006, can't believe it's been almost 20 years) but this is my first rodeo with an airline credit card.
