German passports have no field for middle name as well - all given names are in the field for Firstname. Why would Switzerland add a middle name to the lastname? I can't believe that is common practice. For double names in the Spanish world like Manuel Hernandez-Gonzales there would be no middle name. both family names would be in the surname field as well as for German double-Family names like Agnes Strack-Zimmermann.
