I rarely use it. It's actually my oldest credit card at 25yrs so i use it once every few years to keep it active.
Years ago i went through an Amex promo. It gave me 20k MR pts.
To this day i can't convert it at a good rate for flights. it's just sitting there.
(I live near a United Hub)
How much more do i need to spend to get something useful out of the MR pts?
edit:
Wow... and 5 min later i see that there's 25% bonus to xfer pts to jetblue by dec 31.
I'm taking a one way flight on Qatar Airways early next year that's $700 one way.
PointsYeah says it's 39k jetblue miles.
I can buy additional Jetblue miles for 1.5cents.
so 20k x 25% bonus = 25k jet blue miles.
14k miles short. 140 x 1.5 = $210.
So that $700 ticket costs 20k MR + $210.
Is that a good way to go?
With JetBlue, I believe the regular transfer rate is 1000:800. With 25% bonus, the rate is 1:1.
If you want to flight Qatar, I think it's better to transfer to BA Avios. If you are not in a rush, you can wait for a promo transfer bonus to Avios.
