Seems like I should go with the cheap Basic economy option, but is there a likelihood of aisle seats being unavailable when they open it up for purchase? Or that I'll have to pay more than $50 for each leg?

You’ll probably end up paying something like $30-40 each way for the seat assignment so we’re really talking about a savings of maybe $20-40. Doesn’t seem worth it to me considering you lose all flexibility if the trip changes or cancels for some reason.
