Another substandard D1 meal service on this route out of Detroit on Saturday. I did this same route in late October and posted about the substandard service that was all blamed on the Detroit catering issue by the flight crew at the time.
Once again, the meal was served to me basically all on one tray. Not technically this time, but my tray with the appetizers was set down and my hot entree dish was delivered before I took my first bite of the salad. Also this flight did not have the soup on the appetizer tray, was told catering missed including the soup, so the bowls were pulled off the tray. I had ordered a salmon entree, which was not bad (no photos sorry). It was a bit over sauced, but still was tasty and not over cooked. Also white wine selections were different than was listed in the menu and were not chilled at all, other than the Champagne. I am not a huge room temperature white wine fan. I asked the FA if they had any white that was cold, and she said she could give me some ice. No thanks...I asked for a glass of red instead.
I am not sure what the issues still are with the catering in DTW, but also had a domestic F flight a few weeks ago that failed to have my pre-ordered meal, which was one of the special for the marked options. The FA recognized it right away and asked me for my second choice first before taking the meal orders for the rest of the cabin. It was a breakfast flight...so not a huge deal. Just wanted something other than the egg white thing in the red pepper sauce for a change.
I'd love to know if anybody has some insights into when catering will get back to normal in DTW. I just preselected for my DTW-Europe flight for next week, and it's the same 3 domestic meal options plus the salmon and a vegan option. Hopefully the soup is catered, and I'm not holding my breath for the ice cream.
