That conclusion does not follow from your example. Y, B, and H fares are extremely expensive. In virtually all instances, OP would be better just paying up for Premium Class. Also, Silvers on UA get free E+ at check-in.

Moreover, OP already stated he's made UA Gold. That includes free E+ at booking for member +1 on ANY fare.

This comment betrays a serious lack of familiarity with United. UA is the most tech-forward carrier of any major airline in the world. It has the best app and best integration of customer facing technology. It's also been expanding its route network in an innovative and aggressive fashion. It's also upgrading its fleet with addition of free viasat wifi, while its narrobodies are getting cabin makeovers with personal AVOD screens. The list goes on . . . .

Meanwhile, AS is stuck with often dysfunctional tech (hello, upgrade processor and super clunky app, which won't even allow you to change or cancel a flight). It's also massively devalued its mileage program for 2025 and beyond.

AS is still a nice airline to fly. But it's not well managed and the notion that is somemore innovative than UA is completely false.
