Not happy at all with these changes by BA. I have been a Gold member for several years now and I have **just** retained my Gold status for 2025-2026 through a mix of flights and BAH promotion.
I've noticed that they have sneakily or quietly updated their BAH Double TP promotion ending in March 2025 instead of June 2025 now. With that, it also seems that 'soft landing' will go away. I don't hold the BAPP AMEX card as I made it a personal choice not to have one - I simply do not see the value of those CV vouchers - me and my partner usually pay in cash and so does our parents. Is the BA Executive Club really worth £20k for a Gold card? No I don't think so. I will miss the First Wing but the F lounge doesn't really do it for me these days especially when flying CE. I fly to JFK quite regularly and frankly the SoHo lounge is pretty 'meh'. I was there in August and October this year and it was very crowded that i had to go to the Greenwich lounge. With the new threshold, perhaps £7.5k is doable but practically, is it worth it? Again, no I don't think so.
With these changes, BAEC has now become an unattractive frequent flyer programme for me and my partner. I am also hold Gold with Flying Blue but I will be dropping down to Silver as of tomorrow. I now might have to start picking up again where I left off. It is easily doable and more realistic when flying to longer European routes from LHR. Also, we have VS-DL. Having had several internal transfers with DL in the past via ATL, MSP and DTW, the experience isn't as bad and I find it a better experience than AA via DFW, CLT and PHL. Also, DL has a better 'hard product' when flying domestically in the US.
With the double TP ending soon, I have toyed with the idea of crediting those Avios and TP to Iberia Plus which will give me a huge head start to oneworld Sapphire again for 2026-2027. I have looked at Finnair Plus but 45k tier miles to reach seems a bit excessive.
Does anyone have any suggestions or alternative oneworld FFP to recommend to easily reach oneworld status?
