Well that was somewhat stressful, but successful:

• At midnight Germany (11pm UK) same day changes were not free
• At midnight UK the interface for changing flights changed back to an older one, and flight changes became free
• But at midnight, only the 10am flight had seats in Y available
• At 6am the 4pm went from J1Y0 to J0Y0
• At 7am, the 4pm flight became Y1, which I immediately snapped up
• At 10:20am, the 1pm flight became Y1, and I managed to change to that one too.

• Now it's back to Y0, I am checked in, and even got an aisle seat.

Nothing for the faint hearted, and I can't say I slept particularly well last night.
