I was highly underwhelmed by this hotel and find it difficult to understand the glowing reviews it has received. While the property is undeniably iconic and historic, that’s where the appeal ends.
In the context of Thailand, where even budget accommodations often provide excellent service and luxury hotels typically deliver exceptional experiences, this property falls short of expectations—especially given its premium rates of ~10-15K THB++ per night.
The rooms are designed in an old Thai style, if you like that I guess it's fine. Rooms were quite dirty though, with dust in multiple places, and parts of the room simply not properly cleaned. Service overall leaves much much to be desired. Simple requests for cleaning for instance aren't done within a 2 hour allotment, despite being promised it will be done. Poolside service is lackluster, largely self-serve, and pales in comparison to other luxury hotels in Bangkok within the same price range, where you’d typically find premium padded sunbeds, attentive staff, and thoughtful touches like towels laid out for guests.
Breakfast was particularly disappointing—one of the worst I’ve had in Bangkok. The selection was very limited - and it was not one of those scenarios where it's a small but perfectly executed selection eg most items were lukewarm and basic things like omelettes were pretty bad, the service subpar, and the ambiance uninspiring, far below even a standard Marriott like Surawongse. The coffee was especially poor—basic machine coffee that was barely drinkable.
Overall, I cannot recommend paying the cash rates for this property. There may be some value in redeeming points during peak periods, but otherwise, it simply does not justify its price tag.
