This is actually hit-or-miss. I recently had an AS lounge admit me without the physical card, so it's worth trying if necessary. Although the rules are the physical card is required, so no complaints if access is denied.
Same here in early December arriving off an AA flight. I was prepared to show them my Citi card in case the digital CK card didn’t fly.
