I am thinking to head south (Hakone / Kawaguchiko) one weekend and north (Nikko) the next. For the former, I am considering Suishoen and Fufu Kawaguchiko, and Fufu Nikko and RC for the latter. Food is a priority, as is the quality of the hard product. I also place more value on proximity to nature vs tourist sites. Essentially I am debating the tradeoff of potentially getting bored by staying two nights in the same place (with what I assume will be the same menu) vs the headache of changing locations, not being able to fully enjoy the facility, etc. Thanks in advance for any opinions.
I regularly stay multiple nights at ryokan. I find that it gives sufficient time to enjoy and relax. Nearly all ryokan are used to multi night guests. Fufu Kawaguchiko had 5 different menus to accommodate guests staying up to 5 nights with no repeating dinner and breakfast. Fufu Nikko has a teppanyaki restaurant that we enjoyed on our second night there. As between the two we preferred Fufu Nikko for more interesting design and complimentary happy hour but Kawaguchiko’s rooms do actually have outdoor onsen with Fujisan views.
