The threads above put it best, but the short answer is they're probably not going anywhere for a good few years. The 777X order I believe was to replace 747s and perhaps a few older -200s, but an official replacement won't be announced for a little while. I fly a lot on the VII* series and I quite like them - they definitely don't seem as old as they are to me. Although maybe that's the dehydration talking...
