The traffic from BKK to Asoke is not normally that bad before 5pm. As Binsabai said it is long holidays now and everyone is out of town and causing a lot of accidents too. I never take the ARL if I have luggage. Then I also never arrive late in the day too. You should be OK that time of the day.
