The upgrade to D1 is still $799 or 79,999 miles. There’s only one seat in PS left per the seat map. I confirmed that I can upgrade in miles to PS and still apply my GUC for D1 (I know I’ve read where some have indicated that this isn’t possible but I confirmed with an agent). While I don’t think 79K miles is a GREAT deal, I’m leaning toward the D1 miles upgrade as opposed to upgrading to PS for 49K miles and applying a GUC. My thinking is that the GUC is worth more than 30K miles (79K - 49K). There’s 14 D1 seats available so I do think applying my GUC and not expending any miles is a good option too since there’s a higher likelihood that I’ll clear to D1 but since that happens at the gate, I’d miss out on the JFK lounge experience although I’m sure the lounge itself isn’t worth $800 lol. Any other thoughts? Ill add that I have about 330K miles and have spent around $1200 in cash on the flight to date (I upgraded the LHR to JFK leg to premium for $507 yesterday and hoping to apply a GUC if inventory opens up to avoid using 85,000 miles for a MUA)
You will see those 14 D1 seats magically go down to low single digits pretty quickly, I would guess. IF it were me, I would just use the 80k miles, be able to pick my seat, and go enjoy the D1 lounge. I'd save the GUC because, at this point, it is at best a value of $800, and at worst it gets you only into PS and is a value of less than $500. You have another year to be able to use it on a longer/more expensive itinerary to maximize its value.
