Someone more informed will be surely along shortly, but in the meantime I think you should write more details in order to have better answers. In what class are the in-laws booked? What kind of assistance they requested? When the trip will be?

That means that the LHR-MIA flight is on American Airlines, not BA.
From what I know there should be no re-clear of security arriving from EDI (since it's a domestic flight) and the minimum connecting time while changing terminal is 90 minutes, so this connection is valid.
Also, theoretically if they miss the Miami flight because the EDI flight was late they should be rebooked on the next available flight... that could be the same day or the day after.
