Had a recent overnight stay on a weekend night at the
Residence Inn Eugene Springfield. It was better than average and quite a good choice for an overnight.
The property is located very close (walkable) to the football stadium for the University of Oregon but otherwise in a quiet area across the river from downtown. There's one McMenamins restaurant across the street from the hotel (it was fine) but not much else in the immediate area.
I actually walked over to the downtown area to grab coffee in the morning. There's a bridge right next to the hotel and the walk takes about 15 minutes, so it's a good location for downtown as well, if you have no mobility issues.
There is a huge (free) parking lot for the hotel, so parking was easy, and there was a covered parking area for bicycles as well.
Front desk staff went above and beyond. I had accidentally left an expensive audio speaker in the lobby at check-in. They found it before anyone could take it and put it into secure storage until I retrieved it the next morning.
Room itself was in good condition. I booked "Studio, 1 King Bed, Sofa bed" and received that. (It's not clear that the 1 bedroom suite here is an upgrade, since it only has a queen bed. There are also 2 bedroom suites but had no need for that.) Pretty standard modern Residence Inn room, clean, functional, and windows opened a few inches for ventilation, though there were quite a few spider webs on the outside of the windows.
Only minor complaint was the breakfast. The buffet itself is in an awkward side room, not especially easy to navigate when busy, and I did get a spoiled cup of greek yogurt. But otherwise everything else was fine.
Overall, I would definitely stop here again if I needed an overnight in a quiet location with good access to downtown. (or a football game)
Positives:- Quiet area with tons of parking
- Efficient, professional staff who saved me from my own carelessness
- Room clean, functional
Negatives:- Not much in the immediate neighborhood, though downtown is walkable on a nice day
- Breakfast buffet with awkward layout and I did get an inedible yogurt
- Have to imagine that the traffic is unmanageable on a football game day
